Job Description Performs responsible semiskilled and skilled work in installation, repair, and maintenance of water and sewer lines and appurtenances. Work performed under regular supervision.
Hiring range: $23.15–$31.84 per hour based on experience. Full salary range: $23.15–$40.52 per hour to provide opportunity for growth and development.
Examples of Duties
Makes water and sewer taps and service connections
Repairs and replaces lines and related facilities
Unstops lines with rodding machine; repairs and flushes fire hydrants
Operates trucks, air hammer, tapping machine and other mechanical equipment to perform tasks
Performs general grounds maintenance, excavates and backfills trenches
Installs water meters, fire hydrants, and valves
Performs landscaping and asphalt repair after work is completed
Assists with television and line inspection program
Grouts, reseals, restores, and rebuilds manholes; builds inverts; seals walls; repairs leaks
Performs related tasks as required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Some knowledge of tools, materials, equipment used in installation, replacement, maintenance and repair of utility lines
Some knowledge of a variety of maintenance and manual tasks involved in the installation, maintenance, repair, and replacement of utility lines and appurtenances
General knowledge in the use of common hand and power tools
Ability to operate backhoe and other medium construction equipment
Ability to perform manual and semiskilled labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates
Education and Experience Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and less than 1 year of experience in the maintenance, repair, and/or construction of water and sewer lines.
