Department: Patient Care Unit 3 Shift: 7:00 PM–7:30 AM, 36 hours per week, 72 hours per pay period, Weekend & Holiday Rotations Facility: Miami Valley North Hospital
Job Overview A Patient Care Technician (PCT) works with nurses and doctors to care for patients. The role involves monitoring vitals, assisting with mobility, handling routine medical tasks, and supporting nursing staff. PCTs also may assist with basic administrative duties such as paperwork and unit clerical work.
Responsibilities
Check temperature, heartbeat, breathing, and other vital signs.
Assist patients with moving around, dressing, eating, and participating in walks.
Collect samples such as urine.
Report any changes in a patient's condition to a nurse.
Perform patient hygiene, weighing, and other basic health care tasks.
Assist with paperwork and administrative tasks to keep the unit running smoothly.
Education & Training High school diploma or GED required. BLS CPR certificate required; training can be provided at orientation.
Experience
Finished STNA, CNA, or Patient Care Technician/Assistant training.
Helped care for patients in the past 5 years (e.g., taking temperature, bathing, or providing restroom assistance).
Currently in nursing school and completed one clinical rotation.
Other Skills
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and remain courteous under interruption.
Computer proficiency.
Organizational skills.
Strong verbal communication and listening.
Bonus: Prior hospital experience.
