Senior Accountant/ Assistant Controller

The Staff Accountant will understand accounting, controls, the general ledger and financial forecasting. This role provides management with financial information by researching and analyzing accounts and preparation of management financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Prepares consolidated internal and external financial statements by gathering and analyzing information from the general ledger system and from departments.
Liaise with Inventory & Cost Analyst to plan and conduct periodic internal audits of policies and procedures at all company warehouse locations and perform periodic internal audits in the HQ and administrative offices.
Prepare written audit reports to Senior Management following monitoring activities of prior audit findings.
Assist in and collect requested documentation for quarterly and annual external audits.
Prepare and enter monthly journal entries including month end accruals.
Assist in the monthly, quarterly and annual financial closing process.
Assist in annual inventory counts.
Support accounting and ops teams with coordination and analysis of periodic inventory cycle counts of all company warehouse locations.
Prepare corporate state sales and use tax returns.
Prepare and submit government reporting (e.g. BEA and US Census Bureau).
Research and correct account discrepancies.
Provide accounting assistance to operational and sales personnel.
Develops and implements accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures, recommending changes.
Assist staff accountant with cash reconciliations and other matters.
Calculate provision for bad debt each quarter.
Prepare general ledger account reconciliations on a monthly basis.
Prepare HFM reporting package on a monthly basis.
Record payroll journal entry after each payroll cycle.
Prepare intercompany invoices and payments as needed.
Prepare and submit business property tax and business license filings.
Record new fixed asset additions and post depreciation expense.
Requirements Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
Three (3) plus years of general ledger accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing or distribution environment
CPA or other similar certification considered favorably
Core Competencies
Excellent general ledger knowledge and sound understanding of accounting principles in both theory and practical application
Experience in Sarbanes Oxley environment with development and oversight of control procedures
Excellent analytical and modeling skills
Exceptional MS Excel skills including usage of pivot tables and lookups
Proficient in MS PowerPoint
High attention to detail with the ability to multi-task in a high demand environment
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities
Experience with Oracle preferred
Working Conditions
Primarily office-based with occasional travel to assigned zone locations.
Regular use of computer systems and office equipment.
May require flexibility in schedule to support business needs (e.g., recruiting cycles, urgent employee matters).
