Position Summary Under minimal supervision, provides nursing care for a group of patients assigned to the nurse based on matching the patients’ needs with the nurse’s competencies. Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Other related duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications
Minimum Education:
Graduate of accredited school of nursing.
Preferred Education:
Bachelor’s Degree.
Minimum Experience:
None.
Preferred Experience:
Two years in acute care. Previous clinical nursing experience.
Required Certifications/Licensure:
Possession of current Texas State License for Registered Nurse.
Required Courses / Completions (e.g., CPR)
Must have active healthcare provider Basic Life Support on hire (ARC or AHA); must have AHA Healthcare Provider BLS within 60 days of hire.
AHA ACLS completed within 60 days of hire or transfer into role (LABOR & DELIVERY). Should be completed before end of orientation period.
AHA NRP completed within 60 days of hire or transfer into role (LABOR & DELIVERY or any nurse floated into L&D). Should be completed before end of orientation period.
Fetal Monitoring – L&D and Antepartum: Novice RNs must complete GNOSIS introduction to Fetal Heart Monitoring with 30 days from hire date or transfer date into unit and AWHONN Intermediate Heart Monitoring with 8 months of L&D Orientation. Experienced L&D RNs (>1 yr experience) must have AWHONN Advanced Fetal Heart Monitoring on hire or within first 90 days of hire.
S.T.A.B.L.E. – Level 2 Nursery: Must provide proof of prior completion or obtain within 6 months of hire or transfer date into unit (renewal not required).
AHA PALS completed within 60 days of hire or transfer into role (PEDIATRICS).
