Responsibilities

Perform all activities required for roadside maintenance.

Perform roadway surface maintenance activities.

Service and make minor repairs to operating equipment.

Provide traffic control.

Perform basic construction monitoring duties and inspections.

Maintain roadways for snow and ice control during winter operations.

Prepare and inspect winter equipment; execute preseason and poststorm cleanup.

Set up and transfer winter stockpiles of anti‑icing and de‑icing chemicals.

Install, repair, maintain, and remove snow fences and replace mailboxes.

Maintain documentation on snow and ice data for inventory and resource reporting.

Minimum Qualifications

One year of experience in snow & ice, soils, road surface maintenance, roadside maintenance, bridge maintenance, signage, or related activities.

Must possess a Class B CDL with no air‑brake restriction; must obtain a Class A CDL with no air‑brake restriction and Tanker endorsement within 5 months of placement.

Successful completion of a Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance Program (at least 60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits) substitutes for one year of experience.

Working knowledge of English sufficient for reading, writing, speaking and maintaining logs.

Veterans may be eligible for a waiver of the CDL requirement; contact County Veteran Service Officer for details.

Exam Requirements Job candidates who receive a contingent offer must complete a computerized Math and Reading Assessment. The minimum passing scores are level 3 (Mathematics) and level 4 (Reading). Prior test completion may exempt candidates.

Physical Requirements Requires lifting up to 100 pounds frequently, walking or standing on rough terrain, and performing manual labor such as digging, shoveling, hauling, crawling, and climbing. Exposure to cold and hot weather is common.

Additional Requirements

Drug and alcohol testing required; pre‑placement negative test for marijuana, cocaine, opiates, PCP, amphetamines and 6‑acetyl‑morphine.

Background investigation: SEMA‑4 records, criminal history, employment reference, education/license verification, driver’s license check, and pre‑employment physical.

Must register with the FMCSA Commercial Driver’s License Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.

Re‑verification and random drug testing will continue throughout employment.
