MnDOT District 6 may fill up to 1 Transportation Generalist vacancy at the Rushford Truck Station in District 6:

Winter hours are Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm; or a snow and ice shift, 12:00 am - 12:00 pm (A shift) or 12:00 pm - 12:00 am (B shift). During snow & ice operations employees are split into an A and B shift and will receive 8-hours of work or more depending on the length of the event. Hours may include overtime or various shifts depending on emergency situations and will include working nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbents must have immediate access to a phone and be able to report to work within one‑hour of being called.

Summer hours are to be determined.

Some examples of work for this position are listed below but not limited to the following: Function: Road Surface/Roadway Maintenance

Perform all activities required for roadside maintenance

Perform all roadway surface maintenance activities

Service and make minor repairs to operating equipment

Provide traffic control

Perform basic construction monitoring duties and basic inspection activities

Other duties as required

Function: Snow and Ice

Maintains roadways for snow and ice control

Prepares and inspects winter equipment

Performs preseason snow route inspection and performs post storm cleanup

Performs winter stockpile setup and transfer of anti‑icing and de‑icing chemicals

Performs all work related to installing, repairing, maintaining, and removing snow fences; replacing mailboxes

Maintain documentation on snow and ice data for accurate reporting of inventory and resource management

Performs traffic control set‑ups and/or provides notification to dispatch of disabled vehicles

One year of experience performing activities in snow and ice, soils, road surface maintenance, roadside maintenance, bridge maintenance, signs or related activities (roadway maintenance, driving commercial vehicles, landscaping, operating heavy equipment or farm experience)

AND

*Must possess a Class B Commercial Driver’s License with no Air Brake Restriction and obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License with no Air Brake Restriction and Tanker Endorsement within 5‑months of placement into the position .

(You may be required to obtain a Tanker Endorsement sooner than 5‑months.)

The incumbent will be subject to drug and alcohol testing. New employees must pass a pre‑placement drug test for evidence of use of marijuana, cocaine, opiates, phencyclidine (PCP) and amphetamines (MDMA, MDA and MDEA) and acetylmorphine (6‑AM). YOU MUST LIST COMMERCIAL DRIVER'S LICENSE WITH NO AIR BRAKE RESTRICTION AND ANY AND ALL ENDORSEMENTS/CERTIFICATIONS ON YOUR RESUME.

Education: Successful completion of a Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance Program (of at least 60 semester credits; or 90 quarter credits) will substitute for one year of experience. (In order for education coursework to be considered in lieu of work experience you must submit a copy of your transcripts).

AND

Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in‑person or via two‑way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.

Exam Part 2: Applicants that are made a contingent job offer will be invited to take a computerized Math and Reading Assessment Test. The required passing score for the Math portion is a level 3 or higher and the Reading portion is a level 4 or higher. (Acceptance of the offer is contingent on passing a math and reading assessment test.) If you’ve previously taken and passed the math and reading assessments, you may be exempt from retesting. Please check with your district HR office.

Physical Requirements The physical demands of this job will vary but typically requires lifting 100 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects such as 50‑pound bags. This job also may require walking or standing to a significant degree on rough terrain or may involve sitting most of the time with pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls. This job will require strenuous manual labor including but not limited to digging, shoveling, hauling, crawling, bending, pushing, pulling and climbing.

Weather elements: Will require frequent exposure to weather elements (cold and hot) on a daily basis.

This position is contingent upon the selected job candidate having a valid Commercial Driver's License, submits to a Federal Department of Transportation Pre‑employment drug test (with negative results), is subject to future random drug and alcohol testing and is registered in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's Commercial Driver's License Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.

A revoked, suspended or canceled Driver's License within the last five (5) years or three (3) serious traffic violations during any 12‑month period of time will disqualify a candidate.
