MnDOT District 6 may fill up to one Transportation Generalist vacancy at the Rushford Truck Station.
Working Hours & Shifts Winter: Monday‑Friday, 7:00 am‑3:30 pm; or a snow‑and‑ice shift (A: 12:00 am‑12:00 pm or B: 12:00 pm‑12:00 am). During snow & ice operations employees are split into A and B shifts and will receive eight or more hours depending on the event length. Hours may include overtime, and the role may require working nights, weekends, and holidays. Incumbents must have immediate access to a phone and be able to report within one hour of being called.
Summer hours are to be determined.
Typical Work (Examples)
Perform all roadside maintenance activities
Conduct roadway surface maintenance
Service and repair operating equipment
Provide traffic control
Monitor construction and perform basic inspections
Other duties as required
Maintain roadways for snow and ice control
Inspect and prepare winter equipment
Post‑storm cleanup and preload snow routes
Stockpile setup and transfer of anti‑icing chemicals
Install, repair, maintain, and remove snow fences; replace mailboxes
Document snow & ice data for accurate inventory reporting
Set up traffic control or notify dispatch of disabled vehicles
Minimum Qualifications
One year of experience in snow/ice, soils, road surface maintenance, roadside maintenance, bridge maintenance, signs, or related activities (roadway maintenance, driving commercial vehicles, landscaping, operating heavy equipment or farm experience)
Class B Commercial Driver’s License (no air‑brake restriction) and a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (no air‑brake restriction, tanker endorsement) within five months of placement
Successful completion of a Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance Program (at least 60 semester credits; or 90 quarter credits) is acceptable in lieu of one year of experience, provided transcripts are submitted
Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak, and understand oral/written information; communicate with employees and the public; and maintain written logs and simple records
Exam Part 2 Applicants who receive a contingent job offer will take a computerized Math and Reading Assessment Test. Required passing scores: Math level 3 or higher; Reading level 4 or higher. Previous exam passers may be exempt.
Physical Requirements Lifting up to 100 lbs; frequent lifting of 50 lb bags; walking or standing on rough terrain; extensive manual labor including digging, shoveling, hauling, crawling, bending, pushing, pulling, and climbing. Exposure to cold and hot weather is frequent.
Additional Requirements Feature drug and alcohol testing at placement and thereafter; compliance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration CDL Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse is required. A revoked, suspended, or canceled driver’s license within five years or three serious traffic violations in any 12‑month period disqualifies a candidate.
