Workflow Coordination and Staff Supervision
Organize, assign, and manage workflow for routine, special cleaning tasks and emergency responses • Check Reitz Union event reports for preparedness with planning and scheduling
Meet daily with supervisors or lead workers across shifts to discuss special needs, tasks, or projects; prioritize and resolve issues promptly
Supervise custodial workers performing tasks, including sweeping, mopping, restocking supplies, trash disposal, and cleaning
Coordinate cleaning of exterior areas including walkways, windows, railings, and entrance areas
Oversee operation of power washer, floor scrubber, carpet shampooer and industrial laundry equipment
Schedule heavy cleaning tasks including stripping, sealing, and waxing of hard surface floors, including moving furniture as needed
Organize special cleaning tasks in facility during academic calendar and holiday breaks
Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations (OSHA and ADA)
Interpret university, Reitz Union, and Newell Hall policies for students, staff, and building users
Quality Assurance and Building Inspections
Conduct daily inspections to maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and satisfactory overall condition; document and address deficiencies
Investigate and respond to all custodial needs from occupants and customers
Ensure high-quality standards for work performed by staff and vendors
Periodically inspect adjacent grounds and parking lots to deter theft, vandalism, and unauthorized use; report fire and safety hazards and security concerns
General and Administrative Support
Inspect housekeeping equipment and ensure regular maintenance is performed
Assist with employee recruiting and onboarding
Perform time approvals, verify accuracy of timecards, and review leave request forms
Track attendance and counsel employees as needed regarding attendance policies
Responsible for employee performance evaluations for assigned employees
Address personnel issues, document conversations and keep superintendent informed
Maintain inventory of cleaning materials and supplies; ensure order is processed
Assist with planning and coordination of staff recognition programs and awards
Oversee training of new hires
Perform tasks including sweeping, mopping, restocking supplies, trash disposal, and cleaning
Operate power washer, floor scrubber, carpet shampooer and industrial laundry equipment
Other Duties as Assigned
Perform special cleaning tasks or projects as required
$17.50 - $18.50; commensurate with experience
High school diploma or equivalent and two years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in all aspects of building cleaning
Experience handling and disposal of hazardous materials
Proficiency with computers and basic software applications
Communication skills (verbal and written)
Interpersonal skills
Planning and organizational skills
Ability to follow oral and written instructions
Function effectively in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
Handle multiple projects or tasks simultaneously
Understand, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
Work as part of a team
