Job Description Responsible for performing cleaning tasks in accordance with established standards and procedures. Areas maintained include but are not limited to lounges, kitchens, stairs, elevators, restrooms, bathrooms, entrance areas
Perform cleaning tasks including but not limited to dusting, sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning restrooms and bathrooms, replenishing supplies, laundry rooms, offices, public areas, cleaning vents, common spaces, high and low dusting cleaning upholstery, recreation rooms, storage areas, and emptying sanitary receptacles
Remove and dispose of interior landfill, recycling, and paper towel collection waste from containers throughout the facilities
Respond to unanticipated cleaning needs as required such as spills, graffiti, and other unanticipated occurrences
Report maintenance, custodial or general issues with assigned to supervisor and/or complete GatorWorks request
Ensure compliance with safety standards, OSHA, ADA and other relevant regulations at all times
Operate commercial/residential laundry equipment to clean and fold cloths needed for shift
Assist with heavy cleaning during peak periods or as needed such as stripping, applying floor finish to floor surfaces, and removal of furniture
Perform occasional room set‑up and/or breakdown including moving furniture for events as directed
Perform cleaning tasks at exterior of buildings as directed. Areas maintained include walkways/breezeways, entrance areas, windows railings, and similar exterior surfaces
Perform cleaning tasks including sweeping, shampooing carpet, pressure washing, window washing, operating electrically/battery powered cleaning equipment along with other power equipment such as blowers and automatic burnishers.
Removal of landfill and recycling waste from exterior of building and from containers positioned around the perimeter of the buildings
Assist in maintaining inventory of cleaning materials, supplies, tools and/or equipment in closets throughout the facility; clean, organize and maintain cleaning cart along with storage closets as directed
Perform other duties as assigned, including special cleaning tasks or projects
$16.00 hourly
Completion of ninth grade.
Preferred Qualifications Knowledge
Prefer experience working in the custodial industry for a University/college residence hall, large apartment complex or hotel
Working knowledge of APPA (Association of Physical Plant Administrators) cleaning standards
Working knowledge of industry standards and technology
Demonstrated knowledge in the proper and safe handling of all janitorial chemicals
Familiarity with University of Florida student culture and campus at large
Skills
Demonstrated communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to communicate with various levels of staff
Demonstrated attention to detail, professionalism, dependability, and timeliness
Demonstrated customer service and interpersonal skills
Ability
Ability to remain discreet and respect the privacy of residents, tenants, and/or guests.
Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects or tasks simultaneously
Demonstrated ability to understand, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team in a multifaceted environment

The normal work schedule is Wednesday – Sunday, 7:45 a.m. – 4:15 p.m. with a 30‑minute meal period; days off are Monday & Tuesday.
Some overtime outside of regularly scheduled work hours will be required especially during peak times.
