This position will work closely with the Superintendent dealing with general turf maintenance and playing conditions of the corresponding golf course for the Fargo Park District. This position will oversee irrigation systems, assist with chemical applications related to turf maintenance, operate, and maintain equipment associated with turf maintenance and supervision of full and part time staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Evaluation of this position is based primarily on performance of the following essential functions, which include, but are not limited to:

In the absence of the Superintendent, this individual would fulfill the responsibilities of the Superintendent.

Supervise full and part-time staff with completion of daily work assignments; make field decisions regarding job procedures, work standards and equipment use. Train full and part-time staff on monitoring, maintenance, and servicing of equipment to ensure operational standards.

Assist with instruction and application of herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, fertilizers, and other chemicals related to turf maintenance.

Oversee and operate the irrigation systems.

Operate and maintain all equipment related to golf course maintenance in a safe and efficient manner. Assist with the setup of the golf course and equipment daily.

Perform other duties as presented by the Superintendent.

OTHER FUNCTIONS Evaluation of this position may also be based on performance of the following other functions, which include, but are not limited to:

Keeps direct supervisor promptly informed of key/significant issues or concerns.

Maintain a professional working relationship with full and part-time staff.

Carries out duties and responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner to maintain safe work environment and surrounding area for oneself, co-workers and public. Responds to hazardous situations and/or potentially unsafe conditions by taking corrective action as capable and promptly notifying supervisory personnel.

Performs related duties as assigned or apparent.

Due to the seasonal nature of this position, winter job assignments are described in the winter portion of the park maintenance job description.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Accepted education and experience are as follows:

Four-year degree from an accredited institution in Turf Management with one to two years of experience in turf maintenance.

Two-year degree from an accredited institution in Turf Management with three to five years of experience in turf maintenance.

Minimum of five years of progressive golf course experience.

CREDENTIALS/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must have or the ability to obtain within six months of hire, a North Dakota Pesticide Applicators license, and a Class B CDL with Tanker Endorsement.
