Maintenance Technician The Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring equipment uptime through timely, in‑depth troubleshooting and repair. The role includes troubleshooting and repairing all production equipment—such as injection molders, blow molders, fillers/cappers, labelers, case packers, conveyors, palletizers, and stretch wrappers—as well as facilities and auxiliary equipment, including chillers, air compressors, reverse osmosis units, and other water‑filtration equipment. The Maintenance Technician works closely with machine operators, supervisors, preventative maintenance mechanics and senior maintenance technicians to resolve mechanical issues throughout the shift and proposes solutions for complex or recurring problems to senior mechanics and management.
Essential Functions
Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems using schematics, technical drawings, and testing equipment.
Repair equipment, fixtures, systems, conveyors, and other equipment at the facility.
Modify, lubricate, diagnose, and operate equipment in accordance with Niagara’s defined processes.
Maintain industrial control systems.
Work independently and with other team members to complete repairs safely and on time.
Fill in for production operators as needed.
Create and report repairs throughout the shift; complete required work‑order paperwork and document parts and material usage.
Understand and follow plant safety rules, including safe lifting practices and safe machine operation.
Maintain regular and predictable attendance to ensure equipment and facility uptime.
Assist in regular safety meetings and safety audits.
Keep accurate logs of maintenance activities for audit and quality purposes.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
4 years experience in a field or similar maintenance environment.
4 years experience in this position.
4 years experience managing people or projects.
Demonstrated effective communication across multiple departments.
Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
Ability to read and interpret electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics.
Skilled in shop equipment such as hydraulic and mechanical presses, bench grinders, drill presses, mills, lathes, and assorted power tools.
Proficient with precision measuring tools (calipers, dial indicators, bore gauges, depth gauges).
Willingness to be a technical leader and trainer within a specific area of the plant or machine center.
Own toolbox and basic tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
6 years or more experience in a field or similar manufacturing environment.
6 years or more experience in this position.
6 years or more experience managing people or projects.
Experience in high‑speed manufacturing, bottling, beverage, packaging, or plastics industries.
Experience with variable‑frequency drives (VFD), servo drives, and servo motors.
Experience with rotary equipment (rotary press or filler).
Knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer or plastics processing.
Experience with Krones, Sidel or Husky equipment.
Experience with HVAC systems, including chillers and/or air compressors.
Fabrication skills – cutting, welding (MIG, TIG or stick).
Electrical systems expertise, including 480 VAC & 24 VDC power.
Skill in repairing variable‑frequency drives, servo motors, controllers, communication systems (ASI‑bus, CAN‑bus, Profi‑bus, Ethernet), PLC I/O cards, and safety modules.
