Underwriter: Junior

Contract:
12 Month Contract
Pay Range:
$15 - $18 per hour

Key Responsibilities
Interview loan applicants to elicit information; investigate applicants' backgrounds and verify references; prepare loan request papers; and forward findings, reports, and documents to the appraisal department.
Review loan papers to ensure completeness, and complete transactions between loan establishment, borrowers, and sellers upon approval of loan.
Review and underwrite consumer loan and credit card applications within defined guidelines and framework.
Apply understanding of established risk and compliance policies, guidelines, procedures, and regulatory requirements when evaluating loan attributes.
Use technology tools such as credit reports, income verification/tax returns, and communication platforms (Outlook, Slack, Click-to-Chat).
Key Requirements & Technology Experience
Analytical skills (minimum 1 year).
Knowledge of credit and risk assessment (minimum 1 year).
Regulatory compliance knowledge (minimum 1 year).
Strong analytical prowess and problem‑solving/decision‑making abilities.
Consumer lending credit and risk assessment expertise: deep understanding of credit principles, risk assessment methodologies, and ability to interpret credit scores and reports.
Income verification and tax return knowledge, especially for self‑employed individuals.
Attention to detail and accuracy.
Communication skills: strong verbal and written communication for internal stakeholders.
Preferred 2 years of underwriting experience.
