Junior Underwriter (HYBRID) Contract opportunity with Yoh Staffing’s client working in

Phoenix AZ .

Pay Rate: $20-22/hr

HYBRID-onsite 4 days, 1 day remote

HOURS: 8am-5pm. Shift will be determined at hiring, must be flexible to work Sat or Sun as this facility is open 7 days/week

What You’ll Be Doing:

Interview loan applicants to elicit information; investigate applicants' backgrounds and verify references; prepare loan request papers; and forward findings, reports, and documents to appraisal department. Review loan papers to ensure completeness, and complete transactions between loan establishment, borrowers, and sellers upon approval of loan.

Reviewing Credit Reports: The primary daily duty involving credit reports is to analyze a borrower's credit history to assess their creditworthiness and the risk associated with lending. Income Verification/Tax Return Knowledge for Self-Employed Income: Some portions of the day is dedicated to verifying a borrower's income to confirm their ability to repay the loan. For self-employed individuals, this involves a deeper dive into tax returns.

Communication (Outlook, Slack, Chat platform) NO PHONES

Outlook: Used for formal communication, scheduling/review meetings, coaching sessions, and managing daily tasks.

Slack: Utilized for real-time communication with internal underwriting teams. This allows for quick questions, clarifications, and updates on process changes, fostering a collaborative environment.

Click to Chat platform: This tool facilitates direct, often immediate, communication with other USAA parties involved in the loan process. Can be used for urgent inquiries, providing status updates, or addressing quick questions that arise during the underwriting review.

Required:

Underwriting experience in a consumer loan environment is required.

Analytical Prowess: Look for candidates with strong analytical skills.

Consumer Lending Credit and Risk Assessment Expertise: A deep understanding of credit principles, risk assessment methodologies, and the ability to interpret credit scores and reports is crucial.

Income Verification and Tax Return Knowledge: The candidate must be proficient in verifying income, especially for self-employed individuals.

Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with relevant lending regulations, compliance guidelines, and industry standards is a must.

Attention to Detail and Accuracy: The role demands meticulous attention to detail to ensure all aspects of a loan application are thoroughly reviewed and accurate.

Communication Skills: While direct customer contact does not occur, strong verbal and written communication skills are vital for interacting with loan officers, processors, and other internal stakeholders to clarify information or explain decisions.

Problem-Solving and Decision-Making: Underwriters often face complex scenarios requiring critical thinking, sound judgment, and effective problem-solving abilities to make informed decisions under pressure.
