OB/GYN Licensed Vocational Nurse (VOC NURSE SR) The incumbent is responsible for sustaining an environment of intrinsic good will for the practice while providing optimum services to patients. The incumbent provides licensed medical support to medical care providers as a vocational nurse for the department/clinical team to which it is assigned. The incumbent is supervised by a licensed physician or registered nurse when performing duties within the vocational nurse scope of practice. The incumbent works under the direction of clinic/department management for administrative purposes, including customer service, professional behavior & development, assignment & scheduling of work, and performance of job functions not requiring supervision by a LIP.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum of two (2) years of Licensed Vocational Nurse experience.

California Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)

American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR

Must provide proof of valid Intravenous (IV) Therapy and Blood Withdrawal certification

Must provide documentation of graduation from an accredited school of vocational nursing, or completion of education and experience as a corpsman in the United States military

Ability to pass the safe to practice pharmacology exam.

Skills within the scope of practice of a licensed vocational nurse.

Knowledge of common medications, indications, dosage ranges, dilutions, side effects, and potential toxicity, and typical allergic reactions.

Knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology, with ability to recognize the abnormal.

Observation skills to detect changes in patient’s condition and potential adverse reactions to treatments.

Knowledge of medical terminology sufficient to communicate effectively with patients, health care providers and insurance company representatives regarding appointments, services, procedures, authorizations and referrals.

Ability to accurately interpret physician orders to ensure complete and up-to-date patient records.

Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all co-workers; to consistently interact with patients and other members of the public with patience, courtesy and professionalism, both in person and on the telephone; and to effectively respond to individuals who may be angry or upset.

Problem solving skills to independently define a problem identify the resources available to help solve the problem, create viable solutions and take the necessary action to implement problem resolution and ensure prompt and satisfactory resolution.

Decision making skills to independently exercise delegated authority to take action and to appropriately seek assistance from others when limits of delegated authority have been reached.

Organizing skills to establish priorities for own work to accomplish a variety of concurrent assignments; respond flexibly to changes in priorities; and maintain work effectiveness in a setting with a high volume of patient activity and frequent interruptions.

Ability to efficiently use computer system applications for all functions required for this position, including typing skills sufficient to use computer keyboard for timely and accurate input and production.

Writing skills, using proper English grammar, spelling and punctuation, sufficient to compose messages and/or routine correspondence, which is clear, concise and easy to understand.

Knowledge of clinic’s practices and protocols related to medical records, medical assisting, nursing support, and other business and office procedures.

Knowledge of pertinent laws, regulations, and guidelines governing medical records; confidentiality, privacy, and provision of others, including HIPAA.

Basic knowledge of health care insurance systems as related to required job functions for this position, including Medicare, Medi-Cal, HMO, PPO, fee‑for‑service, and workers’ compensation, sufficient to properly obtain and track authorizations, make referrals, coordinate hospital admissions, medication authorization, DME and explain provisions and requirements to patients.

Preferred Qualifications

Epic or Electronic Health Record experience.

OBGYN experience

Urogynecology or Urology experience

Ambulatory setting experience

Department Overview The UC Davis Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is committed to providing the highest quality care to women in every stage of her life, whether she is seeking contraceptive or fertility advice, care during and after pregnancy, or treatment for menopausal symptoms. The OBGYN Clinic completes approximately 25,000 visits per year at the Ambulatory Care Center and Glassrock Building locations in Sacramento. In addition to general obstetrics and gynecology, services are provided in the sub specialties of Dysplasia, Endocrinology, Perinatology, Prenatal Diagnosis, Oncology, Urogynecology, and Family Planning. Participating in direct patient care for women of diverse backgrounds with comprehensive needs including abortion services and Comprehensive Perinatal Support Program (CPSP).

Department Specific Job Scope Patient Care:

Assist multidisciplinary team in identifying patient problems. Set priorities in adjusting routine care to the needs of individual patients and to daily departmental activities to ensure effective patient flow. Collect patient‑provided information required by the physician to assist in diagnosis and treatment. Provide patient care based on unit standards and the needs of the patient population.

Care Navigation:

Assist a multidisciplinary team in problem and needs identification through observations for disease symptoms, emotional state, cultural and socioeconomic background, and response to medical regimen and treatment.

Documentation and Communication:

appropriately document observations, nursing care given, supplies used, and patients response to medications and treatment on the patients medical record.

Patient Teaching:

Provide and reinforce specific information as assigned by the physician, APP, RN, protocols, or guidelines.

Unit Coordination:

Assist in the maintenance and inspection of supplies and equipment.

Computer System Operations:

Understanding and operation of computer systems and applications necessary to perform primary job functions and assigned duties.
