The ITS Technician is an entry-level role responsible for assisting with the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of ITS equipment and related technology at RFTA. This position serves as an initial point of contact for diagnosing equipment failures and works under supervision. Essential Duties/Responsibilities
The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all-inclusive. Work collaboratively with ITS staff and independently on assigned tasks and projects. Coordinate daily duties with IT and ITS Supervisors. Assist in maintaining ITS equipment through preventive maintenance programs. Support the troubleshooting, repair, and replacement of ITS equipment, including:
ITS/AVL equipment (WiFi and cellular modems, antennas, cabling) Ticket vending machines Bus stop information signs Video systems (Network Video Recorders, IP cameras, Ethernet switches) Fareboxes Two-way radios Vehicle destination head signs Traditional IT equipment (PCs, laptops, printers, etc.) Other electronic equipment as introduced into RFTA's fleet and facilities
Ensure network connectivity and proper vehicle location tracking. Download and provide requested video footage from buses and facility cameras. Maintain an inventory of parts for proper equipment operation. Assist with IT Helpdesk support, including troubleshooting and installing traditional IT equipment. Provide user support, addressing IT and ITS-related issues in a professional and patient manner. Document system configurations and maintenance procedures. Identify opportunities for process and system improvements. Respond to IT and ITS-related requests from other departments. Occasionally travel for off‑site inspections and service requirements. Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Basic understanding of electricity, electronics, computers, Windows operating systems, and networking. Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work independently under pressure. Effective communication and teamwork skills. Ability to maintain and repair fareboxes, ticket vending machines, radios, electronic signage, video systems, and related equipment. Ability to use hand and mechanic's tools. Detail‑oriented with the ability to document and file reports accurately. Willingness to learn and adapt to new technology and software programs. Valid Colorado Driver's License required. Qualifications
Education
High School diploma or equivalent required. CompTIA A+ certification or equivalent (preferred). A combination of education and experience that provides the required skills and knowledge will be considered. Experience
Experience with bus mechanics, technology, or schematics is a plus but not required. Familiarity with maintenance techniques and operations is helpful. Experience working in a collaborative environment is preferred. Working Conditions
Work is performed in maintenance garages, onboard buses, in an office setting, or in the field. May require occasional evening or weekend work to address urgent technical issues. Must be able to lift up to 90 pounds and frequently push/lift objects up to 40 pounds. Must be availability for on‑call rotations and emergency response as required. Outdoor work is required in varying weather conditions. Physical requirements include mobility, bending, stooping, twisting, squatting, kneeling, standing, reaching, carrying, and climbing ladders.
