Position Title: Striping/Highway Maintenance Specialist (Split Position) (Multiple Positions)
Job Description Transportation Maintenance Specialist 2 – Striping/Highway Maintenance Specialist (Split Position) (Multiple Positions), Department of Transportation, Delivery and Operations Division – Region 4, Maintenance Crew, Bend. The role involves operating equipment necessary to maintain and repair roadways, highways, bridges and structures, and assisting with emergency cleanup and traffic control after storms, spills, incidents and more.
Split positions will be based out of the Bend highway crew during the winter months and also work out of the Bend striping crew for the remaining six months each year.
A Day In The Life
Operate heavy and light equipment to maintain and replace roadway striping.
Remove existing paint using sand blasting or grinding equipment.
Service and repair tools and motorized equipment.
Assist with weather related emergencies and operate snowplows, deicer trucks, and other equipment to clear snow.
Perform traffic control and emergency assistance.
Maintain and repair delineators and milepost markers.
Perform paving operations and sign maintenance.
Perform minor maintenance including janitorial work, landscaping, painting, and light carpentry.
Handle exposure to noise, extreme heights, hazardous materials (epoxy, paints, thermoplastics, thinners, acetones).
Move around rough terrain, bend and stoop for extended periods; lift up to 60 pounds.
Available after hours, on weekends and holidays for emergency, on call and weather related purposes.

Minimum Qualifications
One year of experience performing basic highway maintenance work.
Or two years of general landscaping, maintenance, mechanical, farming, logging, and/or construction experience or training.
Special Qualifications
Must possess a current, valid commercial driver’s license A (CDL‑A) with tanker endorsement, no air brake restrictions, no 5th wheel restrictions, and no manual transmission restrictions; OR have the ability to acquire a class A commercial learner permit within 60 days of hire and a CDL‑A with a tanker endorsement and restrictions removed within six months.
Valid driver license and acceptable driving record required. Agency will conduct pre‑employment driving record checks, including FMCSA Clearinghouse registration, full query check for final candidates, and annual query for current employees.
As of Sept. 29, 2025, FMCSA rescinded guidance allowing state DMVs to issue limited term CDLs; individuals with lawful employment authorization documents (EAD) are no longer eligible for CLP or CDL. Refer to FMCSA announcement and FAQ.
Requires a maximum 45 minute response time to 63055 N Highway 97, Bend, OR 97703 for emergency call‑outs.

Experience in road maintenance, construction, or a maintenance training program.
A current, valid CDL‑A is preferred.
Experience working on a team.
Experience prioritizing safety in hazardous conditions.
Experience communicating effectively with contractors, engineers, crew members, and the public.
Experience traveling or driving for work.
