The Wyoming Department of Corrections, Cheyenne Central Office, is seeking a Senior Accountant to support Central Office and Field Services accounts payable and receivable functions. This position plays a key role in preparing, analyzing, and interpreting accounting records and practices in accordance with State of Wyoming standards. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly analytical, and collaborative, with a strong commitment to providing excellent customer service to both internal and external stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Develops, installs, and maintains a fiscal/accounting system for an agency or work unit to address changes in requirements.

Initiates and maintains financial balances of all agency contracts and special projects.

Performs complex specialized accounting, planning, and analysis of an accounting system.

Participates in the annual budget request process by providing detailed financial reports and evaluations to program managers and administrators, and valuating the methodology and accuracy of the data for the projected rates for internal services funds.

Reconciles capital assets and compiles and reports information for internal service funds.

Inputs/tracks all requisitions through procurement.

Reviews and approves department WOLFS (Wyoming Online Financial System) documents for A/P and A/R.

Coordinates fiscal functions and manages grant/project budgets in WOLFS (Wyoming Online Financial System).

PREFERENCES:

Preference will be given to applicants with 3-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Finance or Accounting) and knowledge acquired at an accounting technician level. Preference will be given to applicants with WOLFS (Wyoming Online Financial System) experience. Preference will be given to applicants who can create and manipulate Excel spreadsheets.

KNOWLEDGE:

Knowledge of purchasing procedures.

Knowledge of internal control processes.

Knowledge of accounting principles, techniques, and systems.

Skill in Microsoft Excel.

Knowledge of Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) standards and General Acceptable Accounting Procedures (GAAP).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education:

Bachelor's Degree (typically in Finance)

Experience:

0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Finance) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Accountant.

OR

Education & Experience Substitution:

3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Finance) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Accountant.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform work; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, lifting, and carrying of light items, driving an automobile, etc.

Exposure to inside and outside environmental conditions.

Lifting/grasping up to 50 pounds without assistance on a regular basis.

Walking on cement floors regularly.

Stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching regularly.

Reaching on a regular basis.

Typing/Repetitive motion is frequent.

Talking/hearing frequently.

Seeing: the visual ability to perform an activity such as analyzing data and figures, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading.
