Job Summary

Collect, decontaminate, inspect, assemble, and sterilize surgical instruments and medical equipment.

Support surgical services and hospital units by ensuring the availability of sterile instruments and supplies while adhering to regulatory standards.

Work under the guidance of a certified technician or supervisor while completing certification requirements.

Essential Functions

Collect and decontaminate used instruments and equipment.

Inspect and assemble surgical instrument sets.

Operate autoclaves and sterilization equipment safely.

Maintain inventory and storage of sterile supplies.

Follow infection control guidelines (AAMI, AORN, OSHA).

Communicate effectively with surgical and nursing teams.

Document sterilization cycles and quality control checks.

Assist with case cart assembly and distribution.

Follow detailed instructions and work independently.

Basic computer and documentation skills.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Physical ability to lift and transport instruments and supplies.

Commitment to learning and achieving certification.

Qualifications Education

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Completion of or enrollment in a central sterile processing program preferred.

Licenses/Certifications

Certification not required upon hire.

Experience

Previous experience in healthcare or sterile processing environment preferred.
