Shipping Traffic Team Leader (Operations Manager 2)
What You Will Do
The LOG-MM - Materials Management group is the central organization responsible for the logistics, distribution, transportation, traffic management, receiving and acceptance of all material goods between Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and external customers. The Shipping Traffic team within LOG-MM supports LANL programs in logistics, transportation and traffic management of non-hazardous shipments, classified shipments and inbound logistics. The Shipping Traffic Team Leader will work under the direct supervision of the LOG-MM Group Leader and Deputy Group Leader. The position will require supervisory responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the Shipping Traffic team in all aspects of shipping and traffic
Prepare non-hazardous material shipments, ensuring shipments are compliant with Department of Energy Orders, Department of Transportation regulations, and/or International Air Transport Association regulations
Assist LOG-MM leadership with developing procedures
Participate as a key member of assessment teams
Oversee day-to-day activities of Shipping Traffic employees
Ensure compliance with all policies, procedures, and regulations
What You Need Minimum Job Requirements Leadership
Demonstrated ability to effectively lead in a team environment and interact with all levels of internal and external personnel; Demonstrated leadership experience.
Regulation and Compliance
Advanced knowledge of laws, rules, federal and international regulations related to transportation of non-hazardous materials through all modes of transportation; Demonstrated experience with logistical requirements of arranging domestic and international shipments (non-hazardous).
Collaboration, Communication, Customer Focus
Ability to establish effective relationships with all levels of personnel; Experience in a customer support organization; Proven record of dependability, excellent attendance, and reliability; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Seasoned/experienced in computer-based Business Systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
Safety & Security
Demonstrated experience in safety and security compliance. Ability to obtain a Q Clearance.
Education/Experience
Position requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and 3 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications Federal/DOE
Experience or knowledge with Traffic/Shipping Operations at a Department of Energy (DOE) / NNSA Contractor facility; In-depth knowledge of DOE orders that govern transportation; Demonstrated knowledge in LANL policies and procedures.
LANL Specific
Familiarity with LANL based computer applications; Knowledge of LANL programs, sites, and facilities.
Safety & Security
Knowledge in classified material handling and shipping on behalf of DOE/NNSA Contractor. Active DOE "Q" Clearance.

Work Location The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position Commitment Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is a 1 year.
Clearance Qualifying for a Q clearance is required. Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. Becoming eligible for this clearance requires U.S. citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
New-Employment Drug Test The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new‑employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre‑offer.
