Overview
Registered Nurse RN General PCU at Banner Health. This role involves caring for patients recovering from surgery, with stable cardiac conditions, respiratory illnesses requiring non-invasive ventilation, or those transitioning from the ICU who need significant medical oversight. The unit emphasizes teamwork and ongoing professional development through the Nursing Clinical Ladder Program.
Responsibilities
Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural and discharge planning needs. Review patient history and physical with patient/family, assess data, and communicate findings to the care team. Complete assessments and reassessments as needed and per policy.
Formulate and implement a plan of care, including discharge planning, based on patient needs and input from the patient/family and health team. Set realistic, measurable goals and revise plans as patient status changes. Collaborate with multidisciplinary team; ensure care plans reflect changing needs.
Provide direct patient care and coordinate activities of the care team. Delegate appropriately, supervise others, and ensure continuity of care by communicating patient status to caregivers and physicians.
Evaluate patient and family responses to care and teaching; revise plans as needed. Track progress toward goals with the care team and assess effectiveness of patient education.
Document assessments, planning, implementation and evaluation clearly and timely in the patient record, including nursing interventions and patient responses. Ensure accuracy of physician orders.
Contribute to unit and facility quality through evidence-based practice, shared leadership, education and mentoring of staff, students and families as appropriate.
Participate in activities that promote positive patient outcomes and contribute to nursing quality indicators and outcomes; engage in professional organizations where applicable.
In some roles, supervise staff and workflows within the department. Interact with staff at all levels, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts to coordinate care and support the patient and family through changes in health status.
Minimum Qualifications Must possess a current, valid RN license in the state of practice, or an acceptable compact/license as applicable. BLS certification is required. Additional certification or continuing education may be required based on area of practice. Experience in an acute care setting is typically required, with a minimum of one year in clinical areas relevant to the role.
Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree preferred. Professional certification preferred.
