Salary: $6,579.41 – $7,761.50 per month (monthly pay).

Brief Job Description This position is available for morning, evening, and night shifts on multiple homes. The role may be eligible for additional pay for work performed on evenings, nights, weekends, or at maximum security locations. Nurses work in an environment that values respect for those served and commitment to higher wellness and independence. State Supported Living Centers serve individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or have behavioral problems.
Essential Job Functions Attends work regularly; may be required to work specific shift schedules, rotating schedules, or overtime. Serves in on‑call status as needed. Performs routine nursing tasks per HHSC, SSLC, and state regulations—including tracheostomy, gastrostomy/jejunostomy, wound care, breathing treatments, specimen collection, laboratory screenings, medication administration, immunizations, and patient monitoring. Makes rounds and home visits, monitors weight, diet, feedings, vital signs, and illness symptoms. Documents and reports accurately in electronic or paper charts, prepares reports as required, and provides input to the healthcare team on interventions.
Works with LVNs and Certified Medication Aides (CMAs) and provides coaching. Implements protocols, procedures, and programs to improve health and safety. Assists with follow‑up assessments, injury reports, restraints, and medication variances. Supports nurse managers with medication counts, emergency logs, and other administrative tasks. Assists with infection control measures, quality assurance/quality improvement initiatives, and safety training. Responds to emergencies and provides care to HHS employees injured in the course and scope of employment. Other duties include disaster response and continuity of operations support.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of nursing techniques and procedures, healthcare laws and regulations, medical diagnoses and procedures, medical treatment programs, community health principles, and nursing care standards. Ability to use computers, software, and electronic health records, and to provide clear verbal and written communication. Ability to provide patient care, maintain records, interpret policies, recognize patterns of medical necessity, and follow emergency procedures. Ability to interact appropriately with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities, their families, and staff, to work independently, support, coach LVNs/CMAs, and provide recommendations to leadership.
Registrations, Licensure Requirements Or Certifications Licensed to practice as a registered nurse in Texas (or a state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact).
Initial Screening Criteria Work experience as a practicing registered nurse required. Preferred: at least six (6) months in a health agency, hospital, or health‑care facility. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Additional Information Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aide, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct and HHS List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE). Males 18–25 must be registered with the Selective Service. All employees subject to random drug testing. Flexibility in work hours, overtime, extended hours, weekends and holidays may be required.
