Great Hearts Academies is a growing network of 45 public, open-enrollment, tuition-free schools in Arizona, Texas, and Louisiana. In addition to our brick/mortar schools we also operate Online academies, with fully remote instruction. We currently provide over 28,000 K-12 students with access to a high quality, classical liberal arts education. We gladly prepare our graduates for success in the best universities in the nation, but our main purpose is the formation of the soul, heart, and mind. Position Summary
Implement comprehensive program of health services for campus. Provide health services to students. Promote health education and preventive health practices for students. Sub-nurses may be eligible for a permanent position as it comes available if agreed upon by campus admin. The substitute nurse should precept with campus nurse prior to working on her own. The exact length of time is up to the campus nurse but will be a minimum of 4 hours.
Responsibilities and Duties
Provides temporary and emergency care for sick and injured students or staff according to school policy and procedures in the absence of FTE nurse, utilizing professional assessment skills, the nursing process, individualized healthcare plans and established school health protocols;
Serve as health advocate for students.
Notify parents of accident or illness and secure medical care for students in emergency cases (if parents or emergency contact cannot be reached).
Administer medications according to school policy and procedures.
Perform screening procedures as required by Arizona Department of Health, Arizona Department of Educational, and school policy. Make referrals as necessary.
Maintains accurate and confidential student health records, including immunization records, medication administration records, individual student treatment records, and individualized student health care plans (IHPs);
Attends Admission Review & Dismissal (ARD) meetings of students with identified health needs, as needed when FTE nurse unable to attend.
Participate in assessment and reporting of suspected child abuse.
Communicate regularly with headmaster regarding health services issues.
Enforce procedures to ensure proper program administration according to school policy.
Supervises LVNs, unlicensed diabetes care assistants, other unlicensed assistive personnel, or other school personnel as designated by the campus headmaster to have responsibility for assisting students with health needs. (during extended FTE nurse absences)
Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, Arizona Department of Health rule, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in health services area.
Report potential health and safety hazards to headmaster.
Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
COVID testing and support
Qualifications Education/Certification
Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program
Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license from the Arizona Board of Nursing.
CPR Certification
Substitute nurse will obtain hearing and vision certification.
Substitute nurses will have limited SNAP access.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Competent holistic nursing assessment skills
Expertise in student specific case management plans for acute and chronic health conditions
Ability to implement policies and procedures
Proficient computer skills
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
Strong organizational, communication, mentoring, coaching and interpersonal skills
Experience
One (1) year nursing experience
