Overview

Athletic Trainer, ATC (Per Diem/PRN) - Fairlawn, OH (Transportation) Athletic Trainer (ATC) Provide clinical and administrative support in outpatient care and durable medical equipment (DME) services under the supervision of licensed providers. Responsibilities include patient intake, EMR management, assisting with procedures, fitting and educating patients on DME, coordinating insurance authorizations, and maintaining clinical areas to ensure efficient, high-quality patient care. Assists in general maintenance of equipment, supplies, and exam rooms. Attend in-services and departmental meetings.

Responsibilities

Outpatient Care: Support patients and healthcare staff under the supervision and direction of a licensed provider. Including room patients, record vitals and medical histories, prepare injections per physician orders, respond to clinical calls per protocols, and perform staple/suture removal and dressing applications.

Apply and remove casts and splints as directed. Assist providers with procedures, including patient positioning and equipment setup.

Prepare EMR for new patients and ensure forms are complete and accurately entered. Review EMR for progress notes and stat orders; prepare charge tickets and act on urgent orders.

Update patient health information during visits as necessary. Initiate radiology order entry for provider approval.

Durable Medical Equipment: Fit patients with prescribed durable medical equipment (DME) and orthoses, including education, modification and proper use.

Participates in all aspects of the DME program, including insurance verification, billing, and patient guidance. Obtain insurance authorizations, verify benefits, and explain coverage to patients.

Schedule DME appointments and send referrals to vendors per insurance guidelines. Coordinate timely delivery of equipment, including surgical needs, and send referrals as necessary.

Complete and update patient forms; review EMR for progress notes and stat orders; prepare charge tickets. Enter DME charges with correct modifiers; dispense equipment through inventory system.

Prepare discharge materials and ensure patient understanding of follow-up care. Provide patient education on care plans; ensure accurate documentation.

Other Duties: Attend in-services and department meetings; provide backup coverage when required. Perform additional duties to support patient care and clinic operations such as Medical Administrative Assistant duties.

All other duties not specifically assigned.

Qualifications Education: Bachelors degree in Athletic Training or related field from an accredited program required. Masters degree in Athletic Training or related field preferred.

Experience: 3-5 years of demonstrated experience as an Athletic Trainer or related field, preferred.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in EMR systems preferred. Knowledge of clinical safety protocols and quality standards. Comfortable adapting to changing priorities and clinical demands.

Certifications/Licenses/Registrations: Current license issued by the Occupational Therapy/Physical Therapy/Athletic Training (OTPTAT) Board to practice Athletic Training in the State of Ohio required; Certified by the Board of Certification (BOC), Inc. for Athletic Trainers preferred; BLS required.
