Position Summary This role supports the Hand & Wrist Clinic. The Athletic Trainer (ATC) assists Physicians and/or Mid-level Providers in clinic, hospital, and the DME department. Responsibilities include fitting and education of all Durable Medical Equipment (DME) as prescribed by the physician, applying and removing casts, coordinating and advising on all aspects of the DME program, insurance and billing, acting as a liaison between staff, physician, and DME supervisor, and assisting in general maintenance of equipment, supplies, and exam rooms.

Essential Job Functions / Accountabilities

Ensures that proper patient forms are complete, current, and entered into the computer; checks EMR for progress notes and stat orders, prepares charge tickets, and acts on any stat orders.

Enter DME charges with appropriate modifiers based on insurance requirements; conducts accurate dispensing of DME in the inventory management system.

Obtains authorizations from insurance companies for patient durable medical equipment; checks patients' insurance benefits and explains coverage and benefits per DME guidelines.

Fits patients with prescribed orthosis, including evaluation, modification, fitting, training on fit and function, and answers DME questions.

Schedules DME appointments and sends referrals to appropriate vendor based on insurance restrictions.

Provides back‑up coverage and assists in daily office routine when needed in other areas.

Monitors and maintains office equipment; orders office supplies, orthopaedic/medical equipment, and supplies; cleans, sterilizes, and stocks/maintains examination rooms.

Assists physicians and physicians assistants with special procedures, gathering instruments, positioning patient, and responding to instructions.

Removes dressing and wraps; applies and removes casts and splints; provides patient education on DME.

Gathers discharge data and instructional materials; ensures patients are aware of follow‑up appointments.

Provides patient education on physician's plan of care (hand‑outs/returns, demonstrations).

Ensures charge tickets are marked appropriately; attends in‑services and departmental meetings.

All other duties not specifically assigned.

Position Requirements

Education: Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training or related field from an accredited program.

Experience: 3–5 years of demonstrated experience as an Athletic Trainer or related field preferred.

Certifications / Licenses / Registrations: Current license issued by the OTPTAT Board to practice Athletic Training in Ohio required; BOCO certification preferred; BLS required.

Schedule: Monday–Friday; 8:00 AM–5:00 PM

Status: Full‑Time 40 hours per week
