This engineering position in the Structures Management Unit Design and Construction Engineering Development Squad develops, reviews and updates standard drawings and CADD cell libraries for all elements of bridges, culverts, and pipes using OpenBridge platform. Develops CADD drawings for use in contract plans for special bridge projects. Assists in developing and maintaining the Unit’s web site. Assists in updates to the Structure Design Manual. Provides general technical assistance to the Unit, including CADD support. Write and update in-house CADD software user manuals. Develop and provide training and technical assistance to engineers who are involved in using CADD for design and plan production for highway structures. Develop detailed sketches for Manual figures and Standard Drawings. Review work of engineers and technicians when tasks are completed. Advise Project Engineer and/or Unit Head with structural analyses and prepare reports for internal and external meetings. Provide critical reviews of proposed changes to AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation and Manual for Bridge Element Inspection. Provide technical advisory support to structure-related research committees and review research reports. Communicate with internal and external partners.

This position will use the following:

Thorough knowledge of Structures Management Design Manual and OpenBridge CADD environment. Thorough knowledge and understanding of concepts and practices of technical engineering skills and the design and analysis of highway structures and the ability to keep up with current developments and trends in areas of expertise. May be acquired through academic, apprenticeship, on-the-job training, self-study or a combination of these. Ability to prepare/review moderately complex technical plans and/or data for completeness, compatibility, compliance with engineering principles, standards, codes and design needs. Ability to make decisions on routine engineering matters or other areas requiring technical engineering knowledge. Ability to express intermediate engineering concepts and related facts in a clear, concise and organized manner. Ability to apply mathematical, physical, and engineering sciences to routine services or creative works such as consultation, investigation, evaluation, planning and design of engineering/geometric projects. Ability to coordinate, facilitate, and participate in a collaborative approach to the completion of tasks or assignments. Ability to communicate, in written and oral form, detailed and technical engineering information, guidelines and standards/statutes/codes/regulations to various audiences to ensure that they understand the information and the message, and to seek compliance. Ability to express moderately complex engineering concepts and related facts in a clear, concise, and organized manner. Ability to identify, develop, and analyze engineering designs and/or specifications; ability to plan and modify methods. Ability to identify and plan for resources. Ability to monitor and ensure program/project meets specifications and design.**Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences**Salary Grade and Salary Range:
