Duties and Key Responsibilities Outpatient Clinic Responsibilities Conduct new patient and follow-up visits for general surgery patients Perform pre-operative evaluations, including history and physical examinations Assess surgical candidacy and coordinate diagnostic testing and referrals Provide post-operative follow-up care including wound assessments, staple/suture removal, and drain or ostomy management Perform minor in-office procedures within scope and privileges Educate patients and families on procedures, recovery expectations, and post-operative care Ensure accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record Round on general surgery inpatients independently and/or with the surgical team Manage post-operative care including pain control, wound care, nutrition advancement, and complication monitoring Evaluate and manage inpatient surgical consults as delegated by supervising surgeon Order, interpret, and act upon laboratory studies, imaging, and diagnostic tests Coordinate care with nursing, anesthesia, case management, therapy services, and other specialties Facilitate discharge planning, transitions of care, and timely follow-up appointments Operating Room/Procedural Support (as applicable) Function as First Assist in the operating room per credentialing and privileging Assist with perioperative patient management and clinical decision-making Perform approved bedside procedures such as incision and drainage or wound debridement Quality, Safety & Compliance Practice in accordance with evidence-based guidelines, organizational policies, and scope-of-practice regulations Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to surgical outcomes, patient safety, and efficiency Support compliance with CMS Conditions of Participation, state regulations, and accreditation standards Participate in peer review, morbidity and mortality conferences, and performance improvement activities as requested Work Schedule & Requirements Schedule includes a combination of clinic hours and hospital coverage Includes call coverage, evenings, or weekends based on service needs Ability to stand for prolonged periods and assist in procedures as needed Education/Certifications Master’s or Doctorate degree in Nursing from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program Current RN and APRN licensure in the State of Ohio National Nurse Practitioner certification (AANP or ANCC) Prescriptive authority and DEA registration BLS required; ACLS preferred Experience Experience in general surgery, acute care, or surgical specialties preferred Inpatient hospital experience strongly preferred Clinic-based surgical practice experience preferred Equal Opportunity Employer.
