Job Description Responsible for answering phones, scheduling appointments, posting daily charges and payments, and checking patients in and out.
Primary Job Functions
Answer incoming phone calls and direct calls to the appropriate staff member when necessary.
Check patients in by verifying demographics and insurance information.
Collect co‑pays and patient balance at the time of check‑in.
Schedule outpatient radiology tests and other appointments ordered by the physician at checkout.
Inform the precert coordinator of needed authorizations for tests by inputting the outpatient appointments into the computer.
Obtain new patient/consult information to ensure the proper appointment in a timely manner.
Provide the patient with a printout of appointments.
Distribute incoming faxes and fax outgoing information as needed.
Prepare and fax all test orders for outpatient procedures with the appropriate diagnosis.
Call to reschedule all no‑show appointments if applicable and mark them in the computer or add a reschedule note.
Perform all other job‑related tasks as required by supervisor or manager.
Qualifications
Familiarity with office equipment, computers, and internet literacy.
Knowledge of CPT, ICD‑9 coding, and medical records.
Customer service orientation.
Phone etiquette.
Ability to provide a personable and caring environment for all patients.
HIPAA Requirements Patient Access Representative will have access to PHI in the course of his/her duties. Applying the minimum necessary standard of HIPAA, this employee has access to the minimum amount of designated record sets required to perform his or her duties.
Typical Working Conditions Busy work environment. Environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and tasks.
