We are seeking a talented accountant to help streamline our financial operations and leverage technology to allow for continued growth. Job Summary:
We are looking for an assertive Staff Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will have a strong grasp of GAAP principles, excel in adopting and using analytical tools, be able to handle payroll and other common accounting functions (i.e., accounts payable, audit support, etc.), and bring problem-solving skills to optimize our processes. You will also contribute technological expertise to elevate our current systems, such as maximizing benefits of existing systems/tools or implementing automation. While experience in the construction industry is preferred, a positive, can-do attitude and eagerness to learn are essential.
Key Responsibilities
Independently perform assigned duties/tasks maintaining accurate financial records in compliance with GAAP.
Own and manage the payroll process, including calculations, deductions, and compliance with tax regulations.
Become cross-functionally trained to provide the company with its needed redundancy. This may involve knowing accounts payable function (invoice verification, vendor payments, and reconciliation), subcontractor payables, and/or billings/accounts receivable.
Utilize spreadsheets (e.g., Excel) and other analytical tools (e.g., ERP reporting, Power BI) to analyze financial data and generate reports.
Identify and solve financial discrepancies or operational inefficiencies through creative problem-solving.
Bring a mindset to improve efficiency and data accuracy to our finance team and not be afraid to challenge current practices.
Perform periodic reconciliations for bank and general ledger accounts.
Collaborate with managers and other departments to ensure alignment in processes and information flow.
Perform ad-hoc financial analysis and support audits as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or relevant certification is a plus.
1–5 years of accounting experience, with proven knowledge of GAAP.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other analytical software; experience with accounting platforms like Spectrum, Sage, or other software capable of job costing is preferred.
Hands-on experience with payroll and accounts payable processes.
Strong problem-solving skills and an attitude of continuously seeking and implementing process improvements.
Technology-savvy with knowledge of tools that can modernize financial operations (e.g., AI-driven analytics, automation software).
Construction industry experience is preferred but not required—a willingness to dive in and adapt is key.
Excellent communication, organizational skills, and a collaborative, can-do mindset.
