Summary This position is located within Commander, Mid-Atlantic Region, Fleet and Family Readiness Program. The purpose of this position is to provide technical knowledge, advice and guidance upon request to active duty, retired military members and their eligible dependents.
Responsibilities
Assist patrons only to the extent of absolute knowledge with instructions or advice on repairing automotive vehicles. Ensure not to convey misleading or unsafe information.
Supervise patrons using all tools and machines ensuring safety precautions are used. All patron service will be responsive, polite and delivered in a manner.
Check tools in and out using a custody receipt to ensure their return. Advise customers on safety instructions concerning tools and equipment in the shop and ensure protective equipment is used as required.
Operate shop machinery as required, which may include valve grinding, wheel-balancing, timing lights and spark plug cleaning machines. Instruct customers in proper use of machinery as needed and oversee to ensure safe and appropriate use.
Assist with the preventative maintenance, repair and record-keeping of all Mid-Atlantic owned vehicles.
Collect and record all fees and sales. Operate cash register and perform all necessary cash recording in accordance with established regional policy.
Display stock and refills displays as necessary. Assist with shop inventory as requested.
Maintain facility in clean and orderly fashion to ensure high level of cleanliness at all times. Clean and stock restrooms.
Upon closing, ensure the facility has been cleaned according to directives, checks internal and external lighting and holds fire and security checks to ensure facility is secured.
Perform any other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Must pass all applicable records and background check.
Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
You must be 18 years of age or older.
A valid State driver's license is required to operate motor vehicles.
Qualifications
Knowledge of automotive tools and equipment and their proper, safe use and maintenance.
Must possess basic math skills and have the ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Ability to read technical manuals for tools and equipment and learn shop equipment within 90 days of hire.
Must possess leadership skills to exercise control over groups of people; ability to appropriately identify hazards or hazardous situations.
Must act immediately in any situation which could result in harm to a patron; ability to tactfully but forcefully provide instruction on safety and facility rules and regulations, and enforce them.
Will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part‑time experience. Clearly identify duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, skills, and provides training directly translatable to paid employment.

Education This position does not have a positive education requirement.
