Recruitment Type: General Public - G. The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) serves to protect and promote Virginia's health with a statewide presence and 32 local health districts. The Hampton and Peninsula Health Districts (HPHD) serve the residents of the Cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, Williamsburg, and the Counties of James City and York. HPHD focuses on four pillars: Workforce Development and Training, Culture and Climate, Community Engagement and Partnerships, and Communication and Openness. As part of HPHD, the Certified Nurse Practitioner Senior will lead and contribute to improving health outcomes through clinical expertise, medical decision-making, and team leadership. The role includes pediatrics, family planning, gynecological services, STI and infectious disease management, and adult health services. Responsibilities

Performs patient care as a nurse practitioner with limited or no on-site physician guidance. Conducts physical examinations, orders diagnostic tests, prescribes controlled substances, performs or directs nursing assessments, may perform lab tests, takes measurements, develops and implements care plans, and administers medications and case management. Licensure as a Certified Nurse Practitioner by state code is required. Collaborates within the district to support public health initiatives and ensure access to vital resources for residents across six localities. Minimum Qualifications

Demonstrated knowledge of nursing practice and health principles, physical examination techniques and findings both normal and pathological, disease states, diagnostic testing and limits of testing, and pharmacology Ability to perform and interpret physical assessments, obtain medical history, perform and/or interpret diagnostic testing, formulate differential diagnoses and plan of care and provide health education to clients Ability to develop patient management plans; excellent clinical judgement with ability to know the limits of practice and when to seek consultation Demonstrated ability to work without direct supervision; strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with staff, patients and the public; ability to participate in educational and professional programs CPR/BLS certification Additional Considerations

Prior public health or community health with significant clinical experience in prenatal, STI, family planning, pediatrics and family practice preferred Special Instructions
