Position Summary The Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with nonprofit accounting standards while supporting the mission and values of the organization. This role plays a critical part in financial stewardship, donor accountability, and the effective use of resources in service of the organization’s faith-based mission.
Key Responsibilities Accounting & Financial Operations
Maintain the general ledger, including journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close
Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
Manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely and accurate processing
Reconcile bank, credit card, and investment accounts
Track restricted and unrestricted funds, grants, and designated donations
Budgeting & Reporting
Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts
Monitor budget-to-actual results and provide variance analysis
Prepare financial reports for leadership, boards, and committees
Support grant reporting and donor financial transparency
Compliance & Controls
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations applicable to nonprofit organizations
Support annual audits and tax filings (e.g., Form 990)
Maintain strong internal controls and documentation
Assist with policy development related to financial procedures
Qualifications Required
Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
3+ years of accounting experience, preferably within a nonprofit organization
Working knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
