Key Functions
Collaborate with department leadership and interprofessional teams to build partnerships across the system and promote staff accountability.
Coach and mentor clinicians, utilizing effective communication techniques, to improve practice and patient outcomes.
Oversee transition to independent practice of clinicians, including onboarding, orientation, and professional development.
Direct and mentor teams in implementing clinical projects and practice changes, evaluating outcome measures to adjust or reinforce practice changes.
Identify gaps in practice through competency assessment, observation, or available measures; plan and implement strategies to address gaps using the PDCA process.
Collaborate with Quality team regarding patient safety events and engage in action planning with evidence-based practice guidelines.
Use dashboards to maintain awareness of patient outcome measures and system metrics; partner with clinical areas to plan and evaluate interventions.
Build project plans for practice change considering financial implications and identify cost-containment measures.
Promote staff growth and support transition along the Clinical Career Path; assist in cross‑training and development of individual development plans.
Experience
Five years clinical nursing experience with three years in a clinical specialty.
Education
Master’s degree.
Master of Science in Nursing (preferred).
Clinical Nurse Leader or Clinical Nurse Specialist (preferred).
Licenses and Certifications – Required
RN – Registered Nurse, Texas State Licensure Compact – must obtain permanent Texas license within 60 days if establishing residency.
BLS – Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA).
Magnet ANCC-recognized certification.
Licenses and Certifications – Preferred
Various specialty certifications (e.g., CEN, CNOR, OCN, CDCES, CMSRN…).
Additional preferred certifications listed in the original description.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Demonstrates required skills and competencies through ongoing assessments and evaluations.
Proficient in English language for safety and communication.
Effective communication with patients, physicians, family members, and coworkers using positive language principles.
Strong assessment, organization, and problem‑solving skills.
