Professional Development Generalist Houston Methodist Hospital, Houston, TX

Salary: $125,000.00 - $150,000.00

Overview Lead the development and delivery of educational programs for staff, patients, and families, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and evidence‑based practices.

Key Responsibilities

Assess educational needs across units and collaborate on the design, implementation, and evaluation of programs.

Serve as a clinical resource for complex or specialized care situations, providing guidance to providers and staff.

Deliver effective hospital education, training, and delivery to achieve performance outcomes and best practice standards.

Maintain program records and reports, ensuring timely submission and completeness.

Participate in performance improvement activities and support department/entity goals.

Integrate evidence‑based practice, instructional technology, and adult learning theory into educational offerings.

Manage time independently, prioritize tasks, and recommend solutions to meet financial objectives.

Promote a positive workplace environment, mentor staff, and support transition‑to‑practice for clinicians.

Identify and support innovative methods for accessible clinical education across shifts and departments.

Act as a change agent, participate in research activities and evidence‑based projects.

Attend workshops and educational programs to stay current on developments and trends.

Experience

Four years clinical experience.

Education experience preferred.

Education

Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited school of nursing.

Master’s degree preferred, in health or education field.

Licenses and Certifications (Required)

RN – Registered Nurse – Texas State Licensure Compact (permanent Texas license within 60 days).

BLS – Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA).

Magnet ANCC‑recognized Certification (HM) – 6 months.

At least one of the following (6 months): CCRN (Adult), Health Services CEN, Health Services CNOR, OCN, CDCES, CPAN, CPDN, Health Services RN‑BC, RNC‑OB, CNRN, CVRN Level I, ACNS‑BC, CMSRN, CVN, CCTC.

Licenses and Certifications (Preferred)

Health Services ACLS (AHA).

Health Services PALS (AHA).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Demonstrates competencies to safely perform the assigned job, assessed via competency evaluations.

Proficient in English, especially for patient or employee safety contexts.

Effective communication with patients, physicians, family members, and coworkers, using positive language principles.

Builds evidence‑based practice into the clinical setting.

Plans, organizes, and follows through on assignments and projects.

Exhibits leadership, collaboration, consultation, and coaching skills.

Utilizes adult learning theory and current educational technologies.

Works independently with limited supervision, adhering to nursing policies and professional judgment.
