Base pay range $84,000.00/yr - $100,000.00/yr
We are looking for a safety conscious and self‑driven Safety & Environmental Health Coordinator to join our team in South Plainfield, NJ.
Job Summary In compliance with the applicable legislation and the corporate Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) requirements, the candidate will manage the overall HSE programs such as risk assessment, workplace inspections, incident management, emergency response, safety training, and ensure their embedment in the organization. Support the CSC Lean Initiative through active engagement and participation in continuous process improvement from a HSE perspective.
Essential Functions
Advise higher management regarding applicable HSE legal and corporate requirements.
Ensure compliance with the HSE applicable legal requirements; stay abreast of corporate and governmental regulatory agencies’ safety and environmental standards and requirements by attending training sessions, seminars, studying published material on compliance; use knowledge to develop and administer safety and environmental policies and procedures.
Interpret federal/state/local government regulations to ensure compliance and coordinate with regulatory agencies to negotiate terms of compliance; complete applicable permits/reports.
Develop and implement programs in line with the Corporate Health and Safety Management System (Risk assessment, workplace inspection, machine safety, incident management, working at heights, etc.).
Identify the HSE training needs and develop appropriate risk‑specific training (hazardous material, forklift truck, lifting operations, etc.).
Ensure individuals assigned with HSE responsibilities receive appropriate training (general managers, plant manager, maintenance, direct supervisors, etc.).
Support the direct supervisors to facilitate the implementation of HSE programs.
Measure the HSE performance and report the results to the Tactical Committee and the Corporate Team.
Seek HSE continuous improvement by controlling hazards and mitigating risk levels.
Perform safety audits, inspections, and accident/incident investigations; observe employee activities and workplace conditions; submit recommendations to management to correct deficiencies, eliminate hazards, and improve the overall program.
Review safety statistics, accident reports, and safety audit results through team safety meetings with employees and management to solicit suggestions for improvement and make recommendations.
Encourage employee participation in safety programs through continual communication, close observation, and committee work.
Prepare, review and submit accident/injury reports, obtain proper authorization, and work with Human Resources to ensure all necessary paperwork is completed/filed.
Perform other job duties as assigned by supervisor.
Maintain regular and reliable attendance.

Anticipated Pay Range $84,000 – $100,000 (based on experience)

The range displayed on the job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new‑hire salaries for this position. The range may vary by location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
In addition to base salary, this role will be eligible for participation in Canam Steel Corp (CSC)’s benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision (plus additional voluntary benefits), and 401(k) (with employer match).
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent.
Bachelor’s degree in a related health and safety field preferred.
Minimum of 2 years of related experience in a manufacturing setting and OSHA 30 certification preferred, or minimum of 2 years related experience in a non‑manufacturing setting and OSHA 30 certification obtained within 6 months of employment.
Thorough knowledge of safety principles and related Occupational, Health and Safety legal requirements.
Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels of the organization and ability to teach others.
Computer skills, especially to navigate in Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Occasional travel.
Physical Demands
Frequent communication with others to exchange information.
Frequent repetition of motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
Frequent moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
Occasional adjustment or moving objects up to 20 pounds in all directions.
Constantly remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
Constant use of computer for prolonged periods.
Constantly thinking and processing information.
Constantly maintaining concentration and focus on tasks.
Work Environment
General office environment.
May require occasional exposure to production areas with airborne particles, loud noises, and extreme heat and cold. Personal protection equipment is required when entering a manufacturing plant.
