Job Summary Under the direction of the Patient Access Registration Front Line Manager, the Acute Care Hospital Registrar 2, performs all Registrar tasks and serves as a subject matter expert and mentor to staff. The registrar resolves problems, initiates downtime and disaster procedures as appropriate, and may assist in scheduling staff, assigning tasks and managing special projects.

Essential Functions

Perform all Registrar tasks and serve as an expert resource for registration staff.

Assist front line problem solving issues on a day to day basis.

Provide excellent customer service skills and respond promptly with a warm and friendly reception.

Register patients for each visit type and admit type and area of service via EPIC, collect and document all required demographic and financial information, and activate converts and discharges visits on EPIC.

Scrutinize patient insurance(s), identify the correct plan, and select appropriately from EPIC and document correct insurance order.

Verify patient information with third party payers and collect insurance referrals and documents on EPIC.

Communicate with patients and physician/office regarding authorization/referral requirements.

Handle financial advocacy activities working with Financial Representatives, Patient Financial Services, outside resources and resolve questions, initiate payment plans and obtain payments as appropriate.

Review/obtain/witness hospital consent forms, screen outpatient visits for medical necessity and collect and document Advance Directive information.

Transcribe written physician orders and determine & document ICD‑10 codes.

Affix wristbands to patients, prepare patient charts, manage miscellaneous reports, schedules and paperwork.

Complete audits and task lists as assigned by the management team.

Serve as a management representative when Supervisor is not present to manage technical problems, questions, clinical issues and service concerns.

Initiate and execute Epic downtime, disaster procedures/disaster drills as appropriate.

Communicate with leaders throughout the organization to resolve issues using chain of command process.

Work with Supervisor on process improvement projects, new hire training and other projects as needed.

Correct work queue accounts and insurance rejections within 1-2 business days to support an efficient billing process.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent.

1 year of relevant experience in a customer service role or the health care industry.

Must be 18 years of age.

Proficient in medical terminology and capable of typing 30 words per minute.

Shift: Day.

Hours: 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (20 hours weekly, Sunday to Saturday, variable weekends).
