Essential Functions
Receives eight weeks of formalized pre-service security training at the Illinois Corrections Training Academy including firearms training due to requirements mandating qualification.
Receives on‑the‑job training under immediate supervision of a qualified correctional employee.
Assisted each work week by another correctional employee to help run lines, yard, dining room, housing units, facility buildings, perimeter patrol, armory, and other duties.
Travels using a state‑issued vehicle to complete assignments.
Receives one week orientation at facility.
Gains formal training in housing unit work, report writing, yard work, procedural discipline, and other necessary skills.
Performs other duties within the scope of the above duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Completion of four years of high school education.
Elementary knowledge of resident behavior problems.
Conditions of Employment
Completion of a pre-service security training course during the trainee period.
Successful completion of a firearms training course and proficiency with firearms during the trainee period.
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel statewide.
Eligibility to acquire and possess a firearm, including a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card.
Use of digital technology and tools for departmental efficiency.
Passage of IDOC/IDJJ background check.
Passage of a drug screen; unauthorized drug use prohibited.
Abidance by all vaccine and other medical standards set by the employer.
Work Hours 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m., 11:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m.; shift and days off will vary.
