Job Summary Registered Nurses in the Chandler 5 Main Acute care area at UK Chandler Hospital provide care to adult patients with a wide range of medical/surgical conditions. The 5 Main Chandler Acute care unit offers acute, comprehensive inpatient care for patients suffering from a variety of medical diseases and surgical complications. As part of this unit, the RN serves as an important component of the medical team responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of multiple medical and surgical disease complications. The primary responsibilities for this position include providing total, comprehensive, continuous and patient‑centered care that involves: assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing plan of care; delivering direct patient care; ensuring patient satisfaction; training and delegating duties for Nursing Care Technicians; and adhering to university policies and procedures as well as federal, state, and local regulations. The environment supports collaborative efforts among nursing staff and physicians to enhance communication and expected patient outcomes by using the nursing process in conjunction with a comprehensive patient‑centered plan of care.
Work Requirements
Must be able to work three 12‑hour DAY shifts per week from 7 AM until 7:30 PM; will also be required to work some weekend and holiday shifts.
The essential functions include the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50‑100 pounds on a daily basis and 25‑50 pounds frequently; stand, walk, and sit for long periods. Work may involve exposure to communicable diseases, radiation hazards, and injury from intractable patients or sharp instruments.
Required Education and Experience
ADN (Associate Degree in Nursing)
No experience required.
BSN + at least 1 year of RN experience is preferred.
Required License / Registration / Certification Active Kentucky Registered Nurse (RN) license, Temporary Work Permit (TWP), Provisional License, or active compact state Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing. Must possess American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification valid for at least 6 months after employment date.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities The ideal candidate will have knowledge of Maslow’s eight Basic Human Needs, Gordon’s Functional Health Patterns Framework, and Swanson’s Caring model; superb direct patient care and critical thinking skills; basic computer navigation and internet skills; strong communication, organizational, prioritization, and delegation skills; and the ability to work both independently and in a team.
