Job Description

Provides nursing care to patients using the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation). Directs and leads other assigned team members and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members to deliver age-appropriate care in accordance with nursing standards of practice. Provides patient/family-centered care using the nursing process and focuses on the physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious, and environmental needs. This includes assessing, developing nursing diagnoses, identifying outcomes, planning and implementing interventions, coordinating care, teaching, promoting health and evaluating goals consistently with MUSC policies. Maintains a safe, therapeutic, healing environment by ensuring patient privacy and demonstrating responsive, respectful, professional behavior. Demonstrates professional practice through shared governance, adherence to standards of care, peer review participation, and ongoing professional development. Coordinates efficient patient care delivery, identifies clinical priorities, and initiates actions to improve outcomes. Demonstrates accountability and promotes a healthy work environment.

Minimum Education and Requirements

Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing must be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and obtain a BSN within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date (refer to policy A141 for details). At least one year of RN experience required. Licensure by South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification required.

Physical Requirements

Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, and climbing stairs (varies from continuous to infrequent). Ability to work indoors and outdoors, from elevated areas, in confined spaces, from kneeling positions, bend, twist, squat, lift, and reach (up to 50 lbs unassisted). Requires visual acuity (20/40 corrected), hearing acuity with correction, gross and fine motor skills, and ability to handle stressful situations. Must work rotating shifts, overtime, and in latex-safe environments. Selected positions may require osmotic sensory function and respirator use.
