Area Health Information Specialist I
Join Datavant, a data platform company and the world’s leader in health data exchange. This role is responsible for processing all release of information (ROI) requests, ensuring accuracy, protecting patient privacy, and complying with HIPAA regulations. The position requires traveling 75% of the time and is an intermediate-level role with at least 1 year of related HIM experience.
Responsibilities
Receive and process customer requests for patient health information in accordance with company and facility policies and procedures.
Maintain confidentiality and security of all privileged information.
Adhere to the company’s code of conduct and customer facility policies.
Inform manager of work site difficulties and fluctuating volumes.
Assist with additional duties as needed.
Understand and apply medical privacy regulations, safeguarding records and ensuring HIPAA compliance.
Prepare new patient charts, gather documents from paper and electronic sources.
Assemble medical records in standard order, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Create digital images for electronic medical record storage.
Respond to inbound/outbound calls and assist patient walk‑ins.
Handle faxes, open mail, and perform data entry.
Schedule pick‑ups as required.
Assist in training associates for the HIS I position.
Generate reports, meet productivity expectations, and participate in project teams.
Lead staff on general questions and support new‑hire training.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED.
Minimum 1 year of Health Information Management experience.
Legal age 18 or older.
Ability to travel locally or regionally 75% or more of the time.
Ability to commute between locations as needed and work overtime during peak seasons.
Basic computer proficiency with phones, fax, printers, and office equipment.
Professional verbal and written communication skills in English.
Detail‑oriented and quality‑focused on accurate, compliant medical records.
Strong data entry skills.
Capacity to work with minimum supervision and respond to changing priorities.
Organizational and multitasking skills.
Capability to work in a fast‑paced environment.

Full‑time, Monday‑Friday 8:00 am‑4:30 pm.
