Sanitarian Trainee (Environmental Trainee)

Join the Safe Drinking Water Program at the Department of Environmental Protection and become an essential guardian of public health as an entry-level Environmental Trainee. POSITION SUMMARY As a Sanitarian Trainee, you will participate in a one-year formal training program to learn the duties of a Sanitarian, including conducting extensive inspections of public water systems (PWS), documenting system adequacy, and completing partial, follow-up, complaint, and other inspection types to ensure compliance with the PA Safe Drinking Water Act. RESPONSIBILITIES • Conduct inspections of PWS sources, facilities, equipment, operation and maintenance, distribution network, and overall management. • Document deficiencies, violations, and recommendations for corrective actions. • Deliver presentations on safe drinking water topics to groups such as local government officials, school students, and the general public. WORK SCHEDULE & ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Full-time employment 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with 30‑minute lunch Telework: Telework full‑time is available subject to high‑speed internet and approved Pennsylvania location; otherwise report to the headquarters office in Phillipsburg Salary is non‑negotiable and based on position REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or • Four years of technical experience in a related field; or • An equivalent combination of experience and training. Graduates within 3 months of degree meet educational requirements. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS • Active motor vehicle license. • Pennsylvania residency. • Ability to perform essential job functions.
