The duties of this position include but are not limited to: follow the regular lesson plans and instructions of the absent teacher; maintain the established routines and procedures of the assigned school and classroom; prepare and submit a summary of their work; inform the regular teacher of situations or problems encountered; adhere to school and administrative procedures; implement effective pupil handling; maintain high standards of education; provide guidance and advice to students; show interest in students\' progress; encourage critical-thinking, analytical and creativity skills. Substitute teachers also work with other teachers, respect personal privacy and maintain confidentiality regarding students, consult with parents, and maintain a professional appearance. They take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities; monitor student behavior and report to the Principal any unusual issues; report evidence of suspected child abuse to authorities; supervise non-classroom activities when assigned and do not leave students unsupervised. When Performing Duties Of a Long Term Substitute Teacher
The duties above apply, and the substitute may be required to be available to students and parents for educational-related purposes beyond the instructional day when required. Long term substitute teachers attend staff meetings, serve on staff committees, and perform duties as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent. School Board policies are to be followed at all times. Education/Experience
Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be: Education: 60+ credit hours from an accredited college or university; Experience: Experience working with students is desired. Licenses/Certifications:

Returning retiree eligibility requirements when assigned to critical labor shortage positions: have received their first PERS payment; have retired from the district with effective or highly effective evaluation ratings; have received average or above-average confidential reference ratings; must hold a current or be able to obtain a Nevada certified licensure. Certified district positions require 2 returned confidential references, one of which must be your current or previous direct supervisor. References from relatives will not be accepted. Whenever possible, provide email addresses for references in the application. Notify your references that you will be using them as part of the WCSD application process and encourage timely responses.
