Job Summary
Under administrative direction, is responsible for performing administrative and supervisory work planning, developing, and directing technical and administrative phases of environmental programs. Directs and coordinates various environmental disciplines to preserve the quality of life by improving areas of concern such as air, water, or soil pollution, insuring compliance with all Federal, State, and local laws concerning environmental standards. Working conditions are primarily in an office environment. Exercises functional supervision over assigned staff.
This position is an "unclassified" position and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission. This position is likewise subject to at-will employment status and can be terminated at any time for any reason.

Essential Job Functions
Initiates, plans, develops, supervises, and directs the technical and administrative phases of a specialized program.
Implements procedures to be used in daily operations so that direct results are achieved.
Provides technical assistance to subordinates on complex environmental situations and conditions.
May personally conduct inspections and surveys on the more difficult or unusual problems.
Reviews and interprets environmental policies and regulations mandated by Federal, State, and local government entities.
Prepares reports as required by Federal and State agencies.
Administers programs related to hazardous waste.
Works on environmental task forces and addresses interested environmental groups and the general public.
Provides technical support for legal action and works closely with the City Attorney's Office.
Plans and administers the personnel and fiscal needs for the program.
Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Job Requirements
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with preferable coursework in Environmental Engineering, Hydrogeology, Chemistry, Biology, or a related field.
Five (5) years of experience in managing environmental protection programs, including direct experience in working with regulatory agencies, consulting engineers, scientists, contractors, and neighborhood groups.
Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.
Must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Security Threat Assessment (STA) and a Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) upon employment.
Must maintain federally mandated security clearance required to work at an airport at all times.
Preferred Qualifications
Valid Accredited Airport Executive Certificate conferred by the American Association of Airport Executives.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and the general public.
