The candidate must be able to work seamlessly with a team of educators, and strongly connect with both adults and children on a social-emotional level. Position Objective: The Religious Studies teacher plays a key role in furthering the mission of New Horizon School Westside, a fully accredited school by NAIS, CAIS and WASC. As a school, we are committed to providing students with an excellent academic education with a firm grounding in moral and ethical values. To learn more about our school, visit our website: https://newhorizonwestside.org/ Follow the BIAE Qur’anic Studies Curriculum by developing a yearly pacing guide and weekly lessons that use research-based strategies to engage students to understand and love the Qur’an. Teach the rules of Tajweed for the reading of Qur’an, Qur’anic sciences and vocabulary, and read using the Nuraniya method. Engage students in discussion of the meaning and application of the Qur’anic wisdom. Develop a positive classroom environment, online or on campus, in which students feel safe, happy, and eager to learn. Utilize collaboration strategies and active learning in the classroom. Integrate technology, art, and writing into the program. Assess students using a variety of products. Record grades using the school’s gradebook software. Communicate with students and parents on a regular basis. Perform other duties and tasks as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree, required, in related field, preferred. Minimum Experience: Minimum of 2 years teaching experience. Knowledge: Rules of tajweed required. Understanding of the principles of the Qur’an and how to apply them to the world today required. Nuraniya training preferred. SKILLS, ABILITIES AND QUALITIES: Excellent oral and written communication skills, including listening and feedback capabilities. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with a wide and diverse population, including administration, staff, faculty, parents, students, etc. Ability to multi-task, prioritize and follow-through effectively. Excellent organizational skills to manage teaching requirements of lesson planning, pacing guides,gradebook, etc. Excellent ability in oral and written communication. High level of flexibility, responsiveness, patience, compassion and kindness. High level of discretion in maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information and issues. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
