Position Summary The City of Portland's Bureau of Parks and Recreation is accepting applications for Recreation Leader Instructor Specialty. This position is an integral part of service support and delivery in programs and facilities citywide. Currently, the Recreation Division is seeking qualified candidates to provide instruction in general recreation programs as well as various program areas.

As a Recreation Leader – Instructor, you will

Facilitate, instruct, and support the administration of a wide variety of recreation classes and programs including after school program

Adapt to changing priorities while effectively managing assigned responsibilities

Plan and deliver front-line instruction, including leading and training recreation support staff and volunteers

Operate, maintain, and organize program supplies and equipment

Work directly with the public by providing quality instruction, ensuring the safe use of facilities, and responding to questions and inquiries

Perform administrative and registration tasks to support program operations and meet participant needs

Minimum qualifications

Knowledge of general or specialized recreational programs, services and activities.

Ability and experience establishing and executing lesson plans and in instructing in general or specialized recreational programs, services or activities.

Experience leading and supporting others through the delivery of programs and classes.

Ability to select, instruct, and oversee volunteers and seasonal/casual staff.

Ability to follow written and oral instructions as well as communicate with internal and external customers from different socioeconomic backgrounds and abilities.
