Job Summary
The Store Associate supports the current and future goals within our stores by adhering to all procedures and programs outlined in the Operations Division of GATE. The Associate participates in the daily operations of the store, including food service, and actively learns and trains on all programs to ensure all employees uphold GATE standards.
Requirements
Must be of legal age to sell alcohol and tobacco products.
Must successfully complete a pre‑employment drug screening and background check.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
Must have the ability to speak, read, write, and comprehend English at a level sufficient to communicate effectively with customers and team members.
Must be detail‑oriented and possess strong organizational skills.
Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
Must be able to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds.
Must perform repetitive movements over long periods.
Must be able to bend, kneel, stoop, and reach (including overhead).
Must be able to work in varying and extreme temperatures.
Job Knowledge
Basic reading, writing, and math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
Ability to operate a personal computer.
Understanding of and compliance with policies and procedures related to robberies and safe handling of petroleum products.
Duties And Functions
Work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays, in accordance with GATE attendance policy.
Arrive on time and maintain consistent punctuality.
Arrive in proper attire that is crisp, clean, and in good repair, following GATE uniform and appearance standards.
Maintain a clean, well‑stocked store using organizational skills.
Perform minor repairs and maintenance of store equipment.
Operate equipment such as cash registers, money order machines, lottery machines, safes, credit card machines, gasoline consoles, and emergency gasoline shut‑off valves.
Handle all payments in accordance with GATE policies.
Greet customers and assist with questions about products or services.
Provide positive customer interactions by addressing inquiries and resolving complaints.
Maintain a friendly and efficient checkout experience.
Contribute to a positive, supportive team environment.
Communicate accurately and positively with customers and staff.
Solve problems and de‑escalate conflicts.
Execute store merchandising tasks such as stocking shelves, pricing items, placing window banners, and ensuring product placement codes are followed.
Attend required training, safety courses, and departmental meetings.
Report safety hazards, follow up to ensure hazards are corrected, and help maintain a safe work environment.
Adhere to GATE policies, including rules and regulations from federal, state, and local law, and company policy.
All other duties as assigned by the Store Manager.
