As part of the manufacturing team, the CNC Machinist III will work to ensure the integrity and reliability of products in the Combat Mission Systems business. This role involves setting up and operating a wide range of machine tools and producing parts to close tolerances, including complex components such as gun barrels and other high-complexity parts. Responsibilities

Responsible for working from process sheets, engineering drawings/specifications, sketches and written/oral instructions to machine various end product items. Works to extremely close tolerances and inspects work using precision measuring instruments. Completes manufacturing/quality control reports and tags discrepant parts. Independently perform tasks requiring accuracy and mental application in the use of advanced shop mathematics. Suggest and work with Manufacturing Engineering and others to develop alternate methods and procedures for more efficient and economical product manufacturing. Perform work assignments requiring untried tasks, first run complex machining, method process prove out, etc., in consultation with Manufacturing Engineering or others as required. Make complex setups and accomplish precise alignment of work pieces in machines to extremely close tolerances on high or medium/low complexity parts. Independently perform tasks requiring accuracy and shop mathematics, GD&T, and Feeds & Speed calculations. Clean/deburr parts as conditions permit using machine tools, power tools or hand tools. Maintain and return all equipment such as tooling, jigs, fixtures and gauges to proper storage. Perform routine operator maintenance functions such as lubrication, chip removal, and cleaning of machines and surrounding area. Rig/load/unload parts or equipment from machines using special handling equipment as needed. Maintain/improve housekeeping in the work area and adhere to safety rules and practices. Train other machinists as required. Work under the supervision of a Team Leader with minimal instructions; Team Leader available for consultation. Assist with ancillary tasks in closed areas (e.g., painting, blasting, assembly) to ensure product completion as needed. Understand shop floor computerized time and attendance systems and execute assigned responsibilities (e.g., clocking in/out, closing shop orders). Qualifications

Must have a High School diploma or GED with a minimum of 5 years of strong knowledge of Fanuc, Siemens, KT and G&L controls, CNC programming code (G-code, M-code), etc. Union work environment, seniority-based system. Ability to read, interpret, and edit programming to mitigate production delays/risks. Knowledge in the use of DNC software to upload programming. Strong machining experience with exotic metals (e.g., Monel, Inconel, Titanium, K-Monel). Experience and understanding of GD&T application. Ability to set, use, and read precision layout and measuring instruments. Knowledge of algebraic, geometric, and trigonometric functions applied to blueprint dimensions in machining. Ability to read and interpret multi-paged complex machining product blueprints. Ability to setup and operate major machine tools. Ability to work independently with good judgment and self-motivation.
