Description of Job This position is critical for protecting natural resources from non‑native species that threaten wildlife and water. The role involves traveling regularly to watercraft inspection locations for seasonal openings, sampling, monitoring, outreach, and supply distribution.
Support the State Invasive Species Program by inspecting boats and decontaminating at various Colorado locations.
Work independently or in pairs to inspect boats at launch sites or roadside checkpoints for invasive species such as zebra/quagga mussels.
Provide public outreach on aquatic invasive species, collecting survey information and guiding best practices; attend public events.
When inspection work is not needed, assist the Program Manager and Specialists with quality control, sampling, inventory management, education, editing technical reports, supply distribution, and data entry.
Report directly to the James M. Robb Corn Lake Section office for assignment. Boat inspection and outreach training will be provided.
Position requires regular overnight travel and distance driving, including early morning, evening, and weekend work.
Minimum Qualifications
Good driving record and ability to travel extensively with overnight stays.
Ability to drive long hours and remain alert.
Willingness to be flexible with weekday, weekend, early morning, and evening schedules.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences or comparable work experience.
Knowledge of boat and trailer anatomy; ability to trailer boats and decontamination units on mountain roads.
Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
