Temporary Roving Invasive Species Technician – Grand County, CO
Department: Colorado Department of Natural Resources (Colorado Parks and Wildlife).
Employment: Temporary (9 months or less); pay $19.50 per hour; start date 04/21/2024 through 10/31/2024.
We are seeking a customer‑service based position that involves inspecting for invasive Zebra/Quagga Mussels, Milfoil or other plant species on boats and personal watercraft at an inspection point on the park.
This position plays a key role in protecting natural resources from non‑native species that threaten wildlife, drinking water, irrigation and outdoor recreation.
Responsibilities
Support the State Invasive Species Program through watercraft inspection & decontamination at various locations throughout Colorado.
Inspect boats launching and leaving the reservoir, focusing on invasive species such as zebra/quagga mussels.
Provide public outreach on aquatic invasive species, distributing printed materials.
Report directly to the Program Office for assignment; boat inspection training will be provided.
When active inspection is not required, perform quality‑control assessment, inventory management, technical report editing, supply distribution, and data entry.
Support requires regular overnight travel, long driving hours, early morning, evening, weekend work.
Minimum Qualifications
Good driving record; ability to travel extensively with overnight stays.
Long hours and alertness; willingness to work flexible weekday and weekend schedule.
Excellent communication skills (written & verbal).
Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences or comparable work experience.
Knowledge of boat/trailer anatomy; experience with trailer boats and decontamination units.
Additional Information Required proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access. Must maintain a safe driving record and a valid driver license for state vehicle use. Compliance with new fleet vehicle policy required.
