Job Overview THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION (9 MONTHS OR LESS) – PAYING $19.50 PER HOUR.

The employment period is 04/11/2026 THROUGH 11/07/2026.

Responsibilities

Support the State Aquatic Nuisance Species (ANS) Program by inspecting and decontaminating watercraft at various locations across Colorado.

Complete work independently or in pairs, inspecting boats at reservoirs or other sites for invasive species such as zebra/quagga mussels.

Provide public outreach to non‑motorized water recreation groups and distributed printed materials to recreators on rivers, reservoirs, and outreach events.

Trail equipment, including boats and mobile cleaning stations, throughout southwest Colorado.

Report to the Program Specialist and may support the Program Manager and Specialists with tasks such as quality control, inventory management, technical report editing, supply distribution, and data entry.

Possibly perform overnight travel and long‑distance driving; early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

Excellent driving record and ability to travel extensively with overnight stays.

Ability to drive long distances and remain alert.

Willingness to work weekends, holidays, early mornings, and late evenings.

Flexibility with daily/weekly scheduling, as field work may be dictated by weather.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with willingness to approach and engage the public.

Reliable and timely.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Self‑motivation and ability to work independently.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with boats, trailers, power washers, small engines, and/or heavy equipment.

Willingness to travel and be away from home each week, including possible camping in remote settings; must bring own camping gear.

Ability to trailer boats and/or cleaning units on highways and steep mountain roads.

Customer service skills and/or experience working with the public.

Experience with Microsoft and Google applications.

Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences or higher education.

Vehicle Policy Pursuant to the DNR‑120 Fleet and Driving Standards Administrative Directive, any worker who will be expected to drive a State‑owned vehicle must maintain a safe driving record and a valid driver license prior to driving any State‑owned vehicle.

To be compliant with the New Fleet Vehicle Policy, Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs) will be pulled for review for workers who:

Have an assigned State fleet vehicle.

Are required to operate a vehicle as part of the position.

Utilize a State fleet vehicle as a pool vehicle.
