Job Description A Health Information Management Clerk assists requesters with access to protected health information and responds to requests for medical information in accordance with hospital policy and federal laws.

Schedule Full‑time, on‑site. Rotating shifts and weekends may be required. Shift lengths are typically 7–10 hours. FLSA status is Non‑Exempt. This position reports to the Director of Health Information Management (HIM).

Job Requirements

1–2 years of general healthcare office experience preferred.

High school diploma or equivalent required; some college education preferred.

Prefer RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) certification.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Computer skills and knowledge of computer software required.

Required Skills Familiarity with the organization and functions of each hospital department. Ability to problem‑solve effectively and handle stress in a positive manner. Maintain harmonious relationships with nursing personnel, medical staff, hospital administration, and all hospital departments.

Essential Functions

Assist all customers who come to the window in a timely and courteous manner.

Prepare charts for scanning according to productivity standards.

Scan medical records according to daily productivity standards.

Perform quality control checks on previously scanned reports as appropriate.

Maintain HIPAA standards at all times.

Receive calls to the department and route them accordingly; check department email daily.

Enter birth records into the NV State EBRS/EDRS system.

Contact parents regarding paternity forms and birth confirmations.

Analyze assigned records and assign documentation deficiencies as identified.

Communicate with providers regarding documentation deficiencies.

Assist providers with questions regarding completing documentation in the EMR.

Create, save and import files into the EMR.

Use computer skills in email, Microsoft Word, Excel, Microsoft Teams, and navigate multiple medical record applications.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Functional Demands

Standing, sitting, walking, bending (45–90 degree angles) are required.

May require stair climbing and lifting objects.

Reading and writing as appropriate to medical documentation for the review process.

Speech, hearing, and visual acuity are necessary to perform job functions.

Work at a computer for the majority of the shift.

Work requires mental alertness.

Excellent prioritization and organization skills.
